While some of the illnesses that develop in infants require medical attention, sometimes a natural home remedy for babies will work well to comfort and soothe the baby. A growing baby faces a few health worries such as colds, coughs, fevers and vomiting. Babies also have skin problems that are caused because of skin care products. For this, traditional ayurvedic method of home remedy is suggested. This is practiced not only during illness, but also as a daily routine.
Symptoms and causes
Babies tend to get a lot of colds because their immune systems are still developing and gaining strength. When someone with a cold, sneezes or coughs, the virus is released into the air to be inhaled by someone else. This is how colds spread. Viruses can also spread through hand-to-hand contact. If your baby has a common cold, you may notice some of the following, fever, cough, runny nose, irritability and restlessness.
a) The best way to develop immunity and maintain vitality in children is oil massage.
b) Basic hygiene is necessary to shield the child from diseases and infections. Therefore, the mouth of the children, especially after breastfeeding, should be cleaned. Clean clothes, bedding and proper handling of the baby are also part of childcare.
c) Some baby products are the reason behind baby rashes, parents must make sure that they avoid such soaps, lotions or any product that contains dyes and fragrances.
d) Apart from physical care, it is very important to take care of the psychological aspects pertaining to children. One should avoid frightening the child and should maintain a pleasant atmosphere at home.
a) Gold (Svarna) bhasma can act as a good medicine for infants, when it is mixed with a paste of brahmi (Centella asiatica) and sankhapuspi (Convolvulus pluricaulis) and given with ghee and honey.
b) Ghee medicated with the paste of ashwagandha (Withania somnifra) and milk. This is very nutritious and strengthening.
