Is acidity curable

Treatment for acidity (hyperacidity / Dyspepsia) is multidisciplinary. The first and foremost, the possible cause for the increased acid secretion in the stomach must be investigated. The most common causes of acidity are irregular and faulty eating habits, inadequate sleep and overstretched stressful lifestyle. The treatment modality is thus targeted in correcting all these triggering factors.

The lifestyle modifications include restraining consumption of food items that trigger excessive acid secretion. Certain food items trigger higher secretion of the acid. These include excessive intake of tea, coffee, soft-drinks, alcohol, spicy foodstuffs, non- vegetarian diets, and irregular eating habits, lack of sleep and disturbed biorhythm, stress, anxiety increases the acid secretion in the stomach leading to acidity. Certain medicines such as common painkillers are also known to cause acidity.

The state of hyperacidity or dyspepsia can easily be avoided. There are some effective home remedies suggested in the ancient text which can easily be followed at home.

  • After a heavy meal to reduce the symptoms of acidity take a small piece of jiggery and keep it in the mouth until it dissolves.
  • In the case of chronic symptoms of acidity, there is another simple home remedy. In a cup of boiled water, add teaspoon of sauf (aniseed) and leave it overnight. Pour out the water in the morning and drink it three times a day especially after every meal.
  • Add 1 teaspoon Jeera (cumin seeds) in 1 litre of water and boil for 20 minutes. Keep seeping this water throughout the day especially after meals. The symptoms of acidity shall disappear.
  • Chewing clove and cardamom after meals acts a mouth fresher as well as carminative and keeps hyperacidity at bay.

These are home remedies for acidity and they do not replace the healthy eating habits. One must follow diet that is suitable to one’s constitution and never eat more than required. Warm meals, chewing it well, drinking ample of water and maintaining happy surroundings and contentment in life will help to eliminate symptoms of acidity from one’s life
